Storybook Stays at a Restored 1800's Farmhouse
Remember what it was like to lose yourself in an imaginary world as a kid? Purpose gradually dulls our taste for that delicious freedom. But for a brief time, our minds can take us anywhere. We can be anything. In retrospect, it’s an extraordinary gift too easily surrendered.
Musician Brian Eno mused, “Play is how children learn. Art is how adults play.”
With that nugget of wisdom in mind, enter Lost Soul Found Farm, a consummately artful 1800s farmstead capable of inspiring even the most adult-y adult to play. Explore ten delightfully private, picturesque acres, two living quarters, barns, and a Field of Dreams pool so beautifully sited it appears as though the field itself produced it.
Owing to a decades-long provenance of creatives, the farmhouse, now in fully restored form, honors its charming Italianate architecture with a surprising, masterfully applied collection of contemporary, vintage, and antique art and furnishings. Room to room, the conversation between minimal and maximal whispers of mischief and adventure.
Outside, a dream world awaits. Slow meals under the dappled shade of wise old trees. Walks through golden hayfields and woods ripe with apples, grapes, and berries. Statuesque barns hold curious discoveries. And that pool, a truly elegant feat of landscape design, not a single flourish to distract from the natural beauty that surrounds it.
Between the main and pool houses, Lost Soul Found Farm accommodates 14 guests, yet remains cozy for small groups or solo stays. Select outdoor events up to 50 people are welcome. And, incredibly, this storybook place is less than ten minutes to New Buffalo and the beach.
Go on, six-year-old you can’t wait to catch up.
Local Tip: Don’t miss nearby Farmette, a pretty little market, bakery, and café. Stocked with fresh bread, pastry, cheese, and local produce as well as low-intervention wines and other tastefully sourced treats, it’s a perfect stop for snacks and simple meals.
