River Saint Joe is a farmstead brewery and restaurant on scenic Flatwater Farm, a 180-acre certified organic farm dedicated to producing for RSJ’s brewery and kitchen. Akin to an estate winery — but beer! — River Saint Joe offers a rare, grain-to-glass, field-to-fork experience. Slow food, drink, and life deeply anchored in southwest Michigan soil.

The brewery’s angular, unexpected architecture says this is a place of purpose, with towering windows overlooking the landscape from its small, handsome tasting room. But it’s clear the intention is not to stay inside. An expansive beer garden awaits. Choose your spot among firepits, Adirondack chairs, cheery red tables, or custom dining tents to take in the verdant agricultural views. It’s inherently, delightfully chill.

Beers are a crowd-pleasing variety of styles influenced both by American craft and European farmhouse traditions. Generously hopped, sours, wild and mixed culture, and low ABVs are among the offerings. Start with their flagship Farmhouse Pale Ale and explore from there. NA fermented beverages, botanical elixirs, cider, and wine are also available.

Although it changes with seasons, the current menu is a summery mix of grilled fare, sandwiches, salads, and snacks. The outstanding mezze plate is a standout — organic black bean and beet puree with fresh-picked veggies and grilled pita. Like farmers market in a bowl.
