GO FOR THE BEER, STAY FOR THE BARBECUE

Ground zero of the southwest Michigan brewery scene, Greenbush built its reputation on robust beers with high ABVs and bold flavors. Although they’ve recently opened a couple tap lines for us lightweights, the MO of the menu remains go big, or eat at home.

Southern-style barbecue headlines the offering here and if you doubt a brewpub’s commitment to food as more than an accessory to beer, prepare to be convinced. Generous platters of brisket, pulled pork, smoked chicken, or Texas hot links – you choose the combo – anchor traditional sides like cornbread, beans, slaw, and potato salad. Arrive with an appetite because the mix of sweet, smoke, and spice makes it really hard to put the fork down.

You’ll also find sandwiches, pizzas, cheesy, bacony apps, and – if you’re gonna be that way – salads among Greenbush’s line-up. And for dessert? We suggest a nap.

Local Tip: At certain times of year, parking in Sawyer can feel a little bananas — the product of a tiny one-block town boasting some very popular businesses. But no worries, there are plenty of spots if you know where to look.  The lot behind Sawyer Market is easy to access and steps away.
