48 HOURS IN MARCH
AN EASY FAMILY GETAWAY
DAY 1 – ALL IN ONE PLACE
Check in to Marina Grand Resort, where spacious waterfront suites are a perfect base camp for your Michigan family adventure. Fireplaces, soaking tubs, European kitchens and harbor views make this home away from home feel special.
A romp in Marina Grand’s steamy indoor pool is just the ticket post road trip, so shed your layers and work the kinks out. From the warmth of the pool, the harbor view makes it feel like summer is just around the corner.
Relaxed, happy and hungry, head to the resort’s friendly waterfront gastropub, Bentwood Tavern, where elevated comfort foods and excellent adult beverages mean everyone enjoys a wonderful meal. The vibe here is easy and casual, but distinctly ‘on vacation.’
DAY 2 – ENERGY TO BURN
Enjoy a low-key morning in your suite with everyone’s favorite breakfast treat from Joe, the resort’s coffee market. Baked goods, breakfast sandwiches and granola are all scratch-made in house, and locally roasted coffee is complementary. Gotta have your latte? No problem. Baristas are ready to make your personal favorite.
Ready to spread out? Nearby Chikaming Township Park & Preserve is a favorite March hiking spot. The 263-acre park offers well-marked trails through diverse landscapes, dedicated bike trails and a 5.3 acre fishing pond. We especially love the wide, grassy prairie trails this time of year. With minimal canopy and dense perimeters, they feel extra sunny and wind-protected.
Hungry? A family visit to New Buffalo wouldn’t be complete without a stop at The Stray Dog. Guests never fail to be charmed by the inviting beach inspired interiors, and the menu of Midwestern guilty pleasures is an easy sell to even the pickiest kid. After lunch, head to the gear shop for your very own Sit! Stay! t-shirt. You’ll be joining the league of millions spotted across the globe.
Take the kids’ gaming experience to eleven at Four Winds Casino’s Cyber Quest. Arcade classics and state-of-the-art (but guaranteed nonviolent) video games entertain the whole family as you chase the perfect prize from CQ’s huge selection.
Maybe just a little overstimulated? No worries, that’s what pool time is for! Head back to Marina Grand for some aquatic decompression. The Jacuzzi might look particularly inviting right about now
After dinner (we suggest an in-suite pizza party), stroll dockside along the marina to the Terrace Room outdoor firepit. S’more kits and blankets are complementary to resort guests. The sweet, sticky cuddle time is priceless.
DAY 3 – THE BIG DUNE
Brunch fans must not miss Luisa’s Café. The quaint, simple space might belie the fact that you’ve entered a beloved culinary hot spot, but you’ll understand soon enough. Everything on the menu is someone’s crave-worthy obsession prepared by a tiny team with mostly locally-sourced ingredients. We promise your tummy will appreciate the attention to detail.
Well rested and fed, your crew is ready for a challenge. Warren Dunes State Park is home to Tower Hill, a 260’ sand dune with spectacular views of Lake Michigan. Cool March temperatures make this an ideal time to hike to the top, explore, and take in the majestic scenery. And if that’s not rewared enough, the thrilling run down surely is. You may even be tempted to take a second spin.
Before heading home, visit Whistle Stop Grocery for road trip refreshments. A curated market with a very talented scratch kitchen, you’ll find fresh, delicious to-go meals, snacks, and crazy good baked treats – everything you need for a contented finale to your easy family getaway.
