We love the last week of December. Parties planned and attended, meals prepared and enjoyed, gifts wrapped, given and received. You did it! Awesome job.
And now, your end of year bonus. Seven days when the pace palpably slows, plus a long weekend free from expectation. Whether you’re ready to blow off steam or settle in for cozy sofa time (or both!), these days are for you.
With me-time in mind, here are some of our favorite ways to enjoy this special moment on the lakeshore.
For something a little less sexy but every bit as warm, festive and delicious, Bentwood Tavern offers holiday-inspired dishes, complimentary champagne toast and party favors. You’ll look lovely on the waterfront in your glittery Happy New Year crown. Reservations here.
And for a dining experience that’s decidedly of-the-region, Granor Farm presents the NYE edition of their popular Taste of Granor dinner series. An authentic farm-to-table, family-style meal prepared by resident chef Abra Berens, we’re big fans of the communal vibe and candlelit farmhouse setting. $125, two seatings, BYOB. Reservations here.
NYE Dance Parties
The Acorn welcomes Memphis Underground to ring in the new year. $40 admission includes live music and dancing, small bites and snacks, and a champagne toast at midnight complete with balloon drop and noisemakers. Doors open at 8pm. Tickets here.
Journeyman Distillery hosts a DJ’d dance party in their rustic Still Room. $15 admission includes music and dancing, one complimentary cocktail and midnight champagne toast. Music starts at 9pm. Tickets here.
Finally, the ever-creative boys at Watermark Brewing host a funky psychedelic dance party led by Collective Groove Alliance. $15 admission includes music and dancing, premium taco bar and midnight champagne toast. Disco costumes encouraged! Music starts at 7pm. Tickets here.
Showgirls, salsa and samba! Four Winds Casino becomes The Copacabana just one night a year. Feeling lucky? Guests are eligible for cash and Instant Credit prizes awarded in drawings throughout the night. And live music and dancing begins at 11pm in the casino’s Hard Rock Café with $10 cover.
Lazy days are made for brunch, right? Our pick for kick-back boozy is Bentwood Tavern. Jazzy fireside boozy? Terrace Room. Mom’s kitchen comforting? Luisa’s. Donut bar? Staymaker. Both Bentwood and Terrace Room are open New Year’s Day.
Arts & Culture
Throughout the week, find more live music at The Acorn, as well as at Dablon Winery’s lovely Sunday afternoon acoustic set. Vickers Theatre screens four premier independent films in their historic main street cinema. And for the first time ever, Journeyman Distillery hosts Comedy on the Rocks, stand-up from two award-winning regional comics.
For some of us, retail therapy is always in season. If you haven’t had your fill, most of our favorite shops are open for your no-pressure browsing pleasure.
The crisp hush of the chilly Lake Michigan landscape is perfect for post-holiday decompression. Every path leads to some sort of personal zen. Right now we find ourselves at Warren Dunes (especially the Mt. Randal loop), Warren Woods and, of course (always), the beach.
