Set in the rolling hills of the Hesston Corridor, Williams Orchard is a lovely 135-acre apple and peach orchard boasting over 100 years of family farming. Peaceful, welcoming, and a little bit playful, it’s a wonderfully low-key adventure.

Apples are the perfect lazy man’s harvest with fruit at eye level and within easy reach, so the experience here is much more picnic than project. Graceful rows of trees bear ten varieties of apples throughout the growing season – generally early August through late October – from crowd-pleasing Honeycrisp to distinctive heritage varieties. And if you just want to stroll the farm and purchase goodies, that’s okay, too. Apples, peaches, tomatoes, and a selection of vegetables are available in limited supply in the orchard’s barn market. Peaches, harvested in August, are especially popular and rightly so. A farm-fresh peach is Michigan fruit belt gold. Plan to arrive early if you’re a fan.

In September, apple donuts debut at Williams. Made fresh on-site every Saturday and Sunday, they’re offered with locally pressed cider. In our view, that right there is reason enough to visit. Although the crew of adorable farm animals is pretty compelling, too. (Tell the miniature donkeys we said hi!)

Local Tip: As with most u-pick farms, social media is the place to go for daily updates on availability and conditions. If you’ve got your heart set on a particular variety, check Williams’ Instagram or Facebook page for harvest dates before you head out.
