Down Home Hospitality
Traveling quiet rural highways, we find ourselves drawn to the barns that dot the landscape. Our eyes linger on these stately, purposeful structures among humble homes and open fields, as though their presence assures us that a simple, essential way of life still exists should we choose it. (Cue eye rolls from our farmer friends, but this is our from-the-car fantasy.) As we whiz by on the pavement, barns seem to share an age-old wisdom: if things get complicated out there, you can always come here.
Riffing on that theme of escape and comfort, home stylist Mindy MacNeil transformed a 90-year-old barn into a unique getaway that honors the rustic charm and utilitarian ideals of the building, while proving playground for her luxe and witty aesthetic. A fearless mixer, you’ll find aging beams and original floorboards among velvet sofas and brass bar carts. The result is a space that’s both expansive and cozy, full of humor, history, and a clear intention to delight.
Barn of Three Oaks accommodates up to eight guests with 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, a fully outfitted kitchen, and wood-burning fireplace. Located off Highway 12 between New Buffalo and Three Oaks, it’s a 5-15 minute drive to the beach, wineries, and most area attractions.
Local Tip: Cook here! The open, loft-like kitchen is perfect for leisurely, social meal prep. Shopping local fish, meat, and farm markets is a great way to explore our communities.
