It began with Bek Nelson’s memory of a childhood trip to France. Recalling the country’s vast lavender fields, she was nostalgic. Not for Europe, where she grew up, but for the joy and calm of being surrounded by blooms.

Now at Homecamp, Bek’s seasonal U-pick flower farm near Three Oaks, good vibes come just as naturally. The fresh air and bursts of color are gifts of beauty for beauty’s sake—a taste of nature’s healing tonic and Harbor Country’s uniquely serene landscape.

On rolling acres off a quiet country road, Bek plants tens of thousands of bulbs, tubers, and seeds that yield abundant blooms by mid-summer. Dozens of varieties blossom and fade according to nature’s rhythms. Dahlias, poppies, roses, gladiolus, geum, and zinnias, to name a few, cover the landscape with a kaleidoscope of petals through early fall.

“I think of it like a flower bath,” Bek says. “It cleanses the mind and soul.”

Stroll the fields, pick your own bucketfuls or buy a readymade bouquet, and immerse yourself in a place as lush and peaceful as any in the world.
