Time is ripe for incredible wines
Over the past eight years, Ellie and Pat Mullins built a destination for every kind of wine enthusiast. Step into P&E Bottle Shop, on a quiet street in Three Oaks, and you’re as likely to discover a collectible single-grower Champagne as you are to pick up a crisp Spanish rosé, unbelievably under $16. Bottles are open at the counter and ready to taste. No matter what you’re into or want to try, Ellie and Pat have recommendations culled from two lifetimes of industry knowledge—generously shared in their genuine, unpretentious style.
Born and raised in Belgium, then California wine country, Ellie’s been the tastemaker behind P&E’s adventurous selection since the shop opened in 2018. Pat, a chef, was the creative mind at Patellie’s Pizza, the couple’s beloved New York–style slice shop next door. Two small businesses with devoted, overlapping fanbases. Yet in fall of 2025, they could feel it was time to evolve.
Years before, they’d said goodbye to their New Buffalo craft-provisions shop, Local, to take a chance on pizza and wine. Though it would break slice-lovers’ hearts (including their own), they had the experience—and confidence—to trust their instincts again: this time, bidding farewell to Patellie’s on New Year’s Eve. Now, with room to grow into both spaces, P&E’s ambitions are expanding, too.
The double-sized shop will offer new wine education classes, more tastings, more library-worthy bottles from around the world, more dry ciders, beers, and ports—plus housemade snacks inspired by the couple’s Local roots. Ellie brings in rare bottles she once had to pass on because there wasn’t enough room. Pat can make fresh sausage, charcuterie, and even Sicilian pizza, every so often. And you? You’re in a better place than ever to find a wine you’ll love.
Local Tip: Ellie stocks bottles from the Lake Michigan Shore AVA’s rising stars, including Buchanan’s Stranger Wine Co. Look for the Peony Pinot Noir, a collaboration between P&E and Stranger. Bright and delicate, it’s an all-occasion pinot. And you can only find it here.
